April 2004

At the AGM in February I somehow got myself the job (hopefully with some help from Paul Harris) of putting together the newsletters. We will try our best to keep you up to date with results and with what’s going on in the club, it will of course be a great help if any of you out there could maybe write a piece to be put in the newsletter as it will fill it out without me having to think things up all the time.

Do you have e-mail ?? As several of you already know, we are trying to circulate as many members as possible with any Poole Wheelers’ news such as results & distribution of newsletters etc by e-mail. If you have access to e-mail and would like to be put on the club distribution list, please send an e-mail to info@poolewheelers.org.uk

On a similar subject, have you seen the new look web site? All credit for this should go to Paul Harris who put a lot of time into it. We will try to keep as upto date as possible with results and news of forthcoming events. There is also page where you can advertise anything you may have for sale.

Pedal to the Pub As you should be aware, the first Friday of each month is “Pedal to the Pub” night ( well, it is now becoming a drive to the pub night!!!). Last Friday saw 11 out at the “New Queen” at Sopley and a good time was had by all. The venue for May has not yet been fixed but anyone interested should either check the notice board on the web site or contact Graham Hurst or Ros Spencer nearer the time.

Racing Yes it’s that time of year again and some of the keener ones among you have already started and I have to say there have been some very encouraging results so all being well, Poole Wheelers look to have a very promising year ahead of them.

Rothwell Trophy For those of you who do not know, this  trophy is awarded on a points basis -  points are given from 10 for 1st place down to 2 for 9th and then 1 point for all other riders who finish the event.

The counting events are all club events except the Wednesday night 10’s ( there is a separate 10 league for them) and all EDCA league events. I have on the next page shown the up-to-date positions and it also shows all the qualifying events; remember, all club events you can enter on the day but all open or association events have to be entered approx 2 weeks in advance.

Evening 10’s The first 10 will be on Wednesday 14th April with a prompt start at 7.00pm - this is using the Upton circuit ( P402C)

Road Racing At Barnsfield Heath this year we are being treated to racing twice a week on Tuesdays ( starting on the 13th April) School persons from 6.20pm under 8’s through to under 16’s ( £3.00 entry ) and juniors & seniors from 7.00pm (£10.00 entry) under British Cycling rules ( you will need a BC licence) and Thursdays ( Starting on the 15th April ) 7.00 start under TLI rules ( you will need a TLI licence). £6.00 entry or £7.00 to non members.

Clubruns With the racing season now with us, interest seems to have dwindled but if any of you are going out regularly please let others know, I can put a note on the next news letter and on the web site.

I’m sorry this newsletter is so short but hope it has contained some useful information -  bottom line is I need some input from you, the members, so please try.

Well before I sign off , I must mention it’s good to see a few more of you racing and as you will see from the attached Rothwell Trophy points table , a certain Max Baldock has taken an early lead , the way I look at it he has now thrown down the gauntlet – it’s up to the rest of us to get out on our bike and beat him!!!
